A tragic incident on Lake Edward has claimed the life of Sergeant Johnson Muhindo, a commander with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF). The deadly exchange occurred along the Uganda–Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) border, highlighting ongoing tensions in the region.
The confrontation took place near the Rweshama landing site in Rukungiri District and resulted in at least five fatalities, including four individuals believed to be Congolese nationals. Authorities have called for calm among residents while investigations continue.
Reports from the DRC suggested that a group of Congolese sailors near Kasindi Port in North Kivu Province had been fired upon by Ugandan forces after allegedly crossing into Ugandan waters. However, the UPDF offered a different perspective on the events.
Major Kiconco Tabaro, the UPDF’s spokesperson for the 2nd Infantry Division.
